Embattled Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik on Monday came out with would-be wife Sania Mirza before a battery of mediapersons in Hyderabad to say that he was not going to leave India and would clear his name in the Ayesha episode.
Shoaib made fun of Ayesha Siddiqui’s charge of being the lawfully wedded wife by challenging her to come before the camera.
Sania said, she knew Ayesha’s family background and most respectable families in the city know about them.

Shoaib ruled out offering apology to Ayesha Siddiqui, saying that he was not in a position to divorce a lady whom he used to call Maha Apa (elder sister).
Shoaib made fun of Ayesha Siddiqui’s charge of being the lawfully wedded wife by challenging her to come before the camera. If she says, that she cannot come before camera because she is depressed, then how come she is giving 45 minute long interviews over phone to the news channels, queried Shoaib.
Shoaib on his part asked the media to get Ayesha Siddiqui to come on camera. “If you have stomach ache, where do you go? You go to a doctor. In this case, she should have gone to court. Why is she speaking to media through telephone?”, asked the Pakistani cricketer.
“Inshallah (God willing), I will clear my name and I am staying in this country till that time”, said Shoaib. He said that the seizure of passport was a legal requirement, but he hoped to get his passport back by Monday evening. He also revealed that he spoke to the Pakistani High Commissioner over phone and was assured of all assistance.
Pakistan government has, meanwhile, sent a diplomatic note to India seeking details about the case.
On her part, Sania Mirza stood like a rock beside her would-be husband saying that the wedding will take place as scheduled on April 15 in Hyderabad.
Sania said, she knew Ayesha’s family background and most respectable families in the city know about them. She implored the media to leave the matter to the court to decide. “We are respectable people. It is very painful to face such a thing 10 days before a marriage”, she added.
“Of course, I am upset”, said Sania, when asked about her reaction over the Ayesha episode. “ Yet, we want to remember this (wedding) as the happiest occasion of our life.. I know the truth, our family knows the truth”.
